Attila Angyal (43) and Melinda Petrovics (35), both of Fortune Street in Bolton, Greater Manchester, have been sentenced for running a network of brothels that exploited Hungarian women.
The pair, members of an organized crime ring, were found guilty of trafficking women to the UK for sexual exploitation and controlling their prostitution for profit.
Exploitation and Exploitation
Detectives discovered four Hungarian women working in brothels across northwest England and Birmingham. These women were paid significantly less than the income they generated.
Sentencing
At Bolton Crown Court, Angyal was sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison, while Petrovics received a six-year and four-month sentence.
Safeguards and Prevention
The court also imposed 10-year Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Orders on both individuals.
Investigation
The investigation was launched after Lancashire Police officers visited a property in Blackburn. During the visit, a woman identified herself as a sex worker and showed officers an online advertisement for her services.
Victim Support and Collaboration
Det Sgt Jamie Illingworth commended the bravery and cooperation of the victims, stating their assistance was crucial in securing the conviction.
The investigation involved collaboration with multiple organizations, including three police forces and charities, to ensure the safety of the victims and gather evidence against Angyal and Petrovics.
