Ilford Sex Work News

Samir Patel's despicable actions have led to swift and decisive justice, as Judge Noel Casey sentenced him to eight years and six months behind bars for the horrifying crime of oral rape. Additionally, Patel faced concurrent sentences of 12 months for the chilling threat to kill, 16 weeks for actual bodily harm (ABH), and nine weeks for breaching his restraining order. Notably, no separate penalty was imposed for criminal damage.

In a move reflecting the severity of his offenses, Patel has been placed indefinitely on the sex offenders register. Furthermore, he has been ordered to pay a £228 surcharge as a consequence of his abhorrent actions.

Judge Casey's sentencing underscores the gravity of Patel's crimes and serves as a stark warning to others who engage in such reprehensible behavior. The community can take solace in the fact that Patel will be removed from society for a significant period, ensuring the safety and security of others.

East Londoners who kerb crawl could be hit with a £1000 fine. The council has vowed to target the earnings of sex workers in Romford Road. A council report has found Manor Park, Little Ilford and Forest Gate South areas of greatest supply of sex workers

Newham Council is consulting on proposals to clampdown on kerb crawlers who exploit and purchase sex from vulnerable women on Newham’s streets.

Areas affected under proposals to implement a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) include the 6 wards of Stratford, Forest Gate South, Green Street East, Green Street West, Little Ilford, Manor Park.

Romford Road, which cuts through these six wards, has long been associated with the problem of sex work and related anti-social behaviour which is affecting local residents.

Three years after the creation of the UK’s first boroughwide no-prostitution zone, Redbridge Council wants residents’ support to keep cracking down.

However, while sex workers have “disappeared” from the once-notorious Ilford Lane, outreach groups fear they are just being displaced to more dangerous areas or into pop-up brothels.

Sophia Burley, founder of Christian street outreach group Women on the Frontline Ministries, said the PSPO had been “unhelpful” to their work to build trust with women who need support.

She said: “We lost all contact with them because they just disappeared. We have no idea where they have gone, we believe they may have moved to neighbouring boroughs or into pop-up brothels.

Council leader Councillor Jas Athwal said: "We're already doing a lot of good work tackling prostitution in the borough working closely with the police and local community, and have seen a huge decline in on-street prostitution.

"However, it's equally important to focus on changing the mindset and behaviour of those engaging in this type of practice to ensure a shift in attitude that will help deter local people from purchasing sex to begin with."
