On Saturday afternoon, police carried out checks in the Trinity area of the town following numerous reports that an illegal brothel was being run out of a house.

On coming across the brothel, officers were at first concerned there may have been issues with human trafficking, but on closer inspection, the only problems they found were to be the clear contravention of Covid regulations.

"One female admitted working out of the address of her own free will, and another female resides at the address with her.

"A male was dealt with who was visiting."

Five men and one woman have been jailed for running a brothel which exploited young Romanian women to be sex workers.

The gang’s business model was to advertise the sexual services of young women on the internet, and then move them from town to town across Lancashire - including towns near Bury.
