Feminist critics, resorting to outdated rhetoric, are blasting taxpayer-funded researchers for their efforts to improve sex workers' safety. The SWERV (Sex Workers Evaluate Reporting Violence) project, spearheaded by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Brunel University London, and the sex worker charity National Ugly Mugs (NUM), has secured nearly £1 million from the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR). This grant supports the study of how NUM’s innovative services, such as the “NUMchecker,” enhance the safety and mental health of sex workers. Despite the clear benefits, feminists are labeling the researchers as “worse than old-school pimps.”

Rachel Moran, a self-proclaimed women’s rights advocate, has vehemently opposed the research, calling it a “self-evident disgrace.” Moran, whose notoriety stems from her book Paid For – My Journey Through Prostitution, argues that these funds should directly aid women in prostitution rather than support a research project. Her assertion that the researchers are akin to “vultures” profiting from the sex trade dismisses the real-world impact these tools have in improving sex workers’ lives. Moran’s perspective, while sensational, fails to acknowledge the complexities of sex work and the urgent need for practical safety measures.

Anna Fisher, co-founder of Nordic Model Now!, joins Moran in denouncing the project. Fisher’s rhetoric suggests that the research promotes prostitution as a “normal job,” disregarding the clear objective to make sex work safer. Her claim that the research has a vested interest due to NUM’s involvement is a cynical dismissal of the rigorous, peer-reviewed process that underpins academic integrity. Fisher’s stance overlooks the crucial fact that sex workers face immediate dangers, which the SWERV project aims to mitigate through evidence-based interventions.

Despite feminist criticism, the SWERV initiative is a pioneering effort that addresses the harsh realities faced by sex workers. NUM’s tools, such as the NUMchecker, empower sex workers to report violence and stay safe, offering practical solutions to immediate threats. Critics like Moran and Fisher, entrenched in their ideological views, seem out of touch with the pressing need for measures that directly enhance sex workers' safety and mental health.

A spokesperson for the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine defended the project, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the research with independent academics to evaluate interventions designed to protect vulnerable groups. This commitment to academic freedom and inquiry is essential for advancing public health and safety, even if it challenges entrenched feminist dogma.

Brunel University London echoed this sentiment, supporting the project's focus on evaluating the effectiveness of tools that help sex workers. The university’s endorsement of academic freedom underscores the importance of addressing controversial issues through research, which feminist critics seem determined to undermine.

The SWERV study, launched in December 2023, represents a forward-thinking approach to tackling violence against sex workers. Its findings, to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, will provide valuable insights into creating a safer environment for sex workers, despite the protests from those clinging to outdated and unproductive views.

The Department of Health and Social Care was unable to comment due to the election period.

Six individuals in London and Romania have been arrested in connection with a police investigation into human trafficking, where women are lured into prostitution using "loverboy tactics."

On Friday morning, 133 officers conducted raids in both countries, uncovering six suspected victims of modern slavery in London.

The Metropolitan Police suspect an organized crime network is using male recruiters in Romania to pose as boyfriends to potential victims. They then traffic the women to London to be exploited in the sex trade.

A 24-year-old man, sought by a UK court warrant, was apprehended and taken into custody in north London.

Five individuals were detained by Romanian officers for questioning regarding alleged human trafficking.

During the raids, authorities seized cash, watches, vehicles, and firearms.

Detective Inspector Melanie Lillywhite from the Met's modern slavery unit stated that the gang's operations have been "disrupted."

She emphasized that recruitment and grooming of women for exploitation continues across London and the UK, with hundreds of modern slavery victims identified each year.

The individuals found during the raids will receive support from the charity Justice and Care, as well as assistance from specialist officers from the Met Police.

The investigation involved cooperation with European agencies Europol and Eurojust, with 12 warrants issued in Romania and three in north London.

Ms. Lillywhite also noted that victims of modern slavery are often found working in construction, farming, cannabis factories, car washes, barbershops, and nail salons, and urged the public to provide information.

She added that victims are frequently told not to trust police and authorities in the UK and, with limited English, are unable to seek help even if they wish to.

She concluded by stating that there may be victims of modern slavery in every borough across London, and the public may encounter them daily without realizing it.

In the depths of the pandemic, amidst prolonged isolation, a profound realization struck me—I had been "masking" my entire life. The norms of social behavior, considered typical, were a facade I meticulously adhered to until the pandemic unraveled this charade. The more I shed this guise, the more contentment and authenticity I discovered within myself.

Drawing parallels between recognizing one's autism and acknowledging one's sexual orientation, I couldn't help but contemplate. As a bisexual woman, my awareness of my sexual identity didn't require a professional's validation. However, societal norms dictate a different path for those discovering their autism. A formal diagnosis seems indispensable, although its practical value in societal integration remains scarce. Despite lacking a formal diagnosis for much of my life, I inherently knew I was different, though the reasons eluded me.

The quest for affirmation led me to extensive sessions with a psychologist, recounting my life's narrative, undertaking personality assessments, and cataloging traits that resonated with me. The devastating blow came when, despite my conviction, the psychologist negated my belief in being autistic. Struggling to maintain composure while inwardly disconnecting, I queried the rationale behind his judgment.

My certainty stemmed from hours spent poring over global TikTok communities, finding solace in shared experiences that finally illuminated my life's enigma. A late ADHD diagnosis had failed to provide a complete explanation, leaving me with longstanding suspicions about my autism, suspicions that now solidified into certainty.

In a jarring dismissal, the psychologist cited my profession as an escort as incompatible with autism, a statement that left me bewildered. My employment in this field, undertaken due to job instability in my 20s, offered a unique perspective—I discovered a profound connection with clients, particularly with disabled, chronically ill, and mentally distressed individuals. Understanding their loneliness, I derived fulfillment in offering companionship on my own terms.

However, my psychologist, failing to grasp this nuanced dynamic, hastily labeled me with avoidant personality disorder, attributing it to my disinterest in forming a traditional family.

The aftermath of this diagnosis plunged me into emotional turmoil. Disregarded by a professional who questioned my lived experiences, I grappled with the psychological distress. Despite academic qualifications bolstering his stance, I couldn't reconcile with this dissonance.

Turning to the online community of sex workers became my refuge. Desperate for validation and support, I reached out on social media, seeking connections with other autistic individuals engaged in similar professions. Doubts clouded my mind—was my psychologist right? Could being an escort clash with an autistic individual's inherent tendencies?

The ensuing uncertainty loomed large, painting a complex picture of societal perceptions intersecting with personal identity, leaving me grappling for validation and understanding amidst professional skepticism.

Navigating the Shift From Social Stars to Exclusive Content Creators

Navigating the Shift From Social Stars to Exclusive Content Creators

It's no secret that the digital age has revolutionised how we consume entertainment. In recent years, we've witnessed a fascinating phenomenon: those catchy dance routines and viral clips on TikTok are becoming the gateway for creators to a more personal and lucrative venture. Indeed, TikTok creators turned OnlyFans stars are redefining fame, offering an exclusive glimpse into their lives to fans willing to pay for the privilege. This shift allows creators to form a more intimate bond with their audience and provides a platform that caters to more niche content.

Understanding the drive behind exclusive digital content

The allure of subscription platforms can't be overstated. Fans are drawn to the promise of content they can't find anywhere else, coupled with the possibility of interacting directly with creators. It's a unique combination that mainstream social media can't replicate: the satisfaction of supporting a favourite creator while gaining access to their most exclusive work. Whether it's specific kinks, aesthetics, or simply a personality they've grown to love on TikTok, subscribers enjoy tailored content that resonates with their personal tastes.

Ensuring a safe space in the online adult world

Diving into online adult entertainment as a creator or consumer comes with its privacy concerns. Therefore, navigating this space with discretion is paramount. Creators often adopt pseudonyms and employ strict privacy settings to separate their online personas from their personal lives. Fans, too, are urged to respect these boundaries for a culture of mutual respect. Conversely, creators need to be transparent about the content they provide, ensuring fans know what they're subscribing to, thus balancing explicit content gracefully with artistic freedom.

The global reach of digital content creators

The internet knows no borders, and content creators are tapping into international audiences with broader appetites and varied interests. This open market doesn't just expose fans to different cultures but also lets creators express their uniqueness without geographical constraints. Overcoming language barriers with subtitles or multi-language content broadens the appeal and allows trends from one region to influence or become popular in another, creating a truly global exchange of digital entertainment.

Monetising the personal touch in digital entertainment

As creators transition to platforms that allow for subscription-based content, understanding the financial perks becomes critical. There's a variety of revenue streams to explore, from pay-per-view messages to tipping, ensuring creators are compensated for their efforts. These platforms support creators not just artistically but financially, taking a cut while providing a service that's invaluable in the digital economy. Subscribers, on the other hand, are often happy to pay for this content, as it gives them a sense of investment in the creator's success, fostering a community unlike any other.

Introduction:

The landscape of sex work has evolved significantly, accompanied by shifts in societal attitudes and technological advancements. From traditional forms like prostitution to contemporary manifestations like online platforms for selling content or meeting clients, technology has fundamentally altered the sex work industry. This overview delves into the multifaceted influence of technology on modern sex work, examining its positive and negative impacts.

Positive Impact of Technology:

  1. Safety and Harm Reduction: Technology offers sex workers control over their visibility, enabling them to manage interactions with clients and reduce physical risks associated with in-person encounters.
  2. Empowerment and Destigmatization: Online platforms allow sex workers to curate their online presence, challenge stigmatizing narratives, and reclaim agency over their profession.
  3. Advocacy for Rights: Digital spaces empower sex workers to advocate for decriminalization and rights, utilizing online platforms to amplify their voices and connect with a global community.
  4. Education and Awareness: Technology facilitates access to information, reshaping public perceptions by providing a broader understanding of sex work and its nuances.

Negative Impact of Technology:

  1. Potential for Misinterpretation: Interactive technology in sex work may blur boundaries, leading clients to misinterpret professional interactions as genuine emotional connections, potentially resulting in stalking or harassment.
  2. Privacy Concerns: Workers face risks of exposure to personal connections or encounters offline, leading to anxiety and potential safety concerns.
  3. Vulnerability to Exploitation: Inexperienced workers entering the online sex work realm might be susceptible to exploitation or coercion due to unfamiliarity with the industry.
  4. Content Restrictions and Legal/Ethical Challenges: Platforms impose limitations on content, impacting earnings and professional autonomy. Legal and ethical debates surrounding sex work add complexities, exposing workers to judgment and legal repercussions.

Conclusion: Technology's integration into modern sex work introduces a spectrum of advantages and challenges. While it enhances safety, empowerment, advocacy, and awareness, it also poses risks related to misinterpretation, privacy, exploitation, content restrictions, and legal complexities. Understanding these multifaceted impacts is crucial in comprehending the nuanced dynamics of modern sex work in the digital era.

Campaigners have warned that the freezing of bank accounts for prostitues leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and violence.

The warning comes after former UKIP leader Nigel Farage demanded compensation from private bank Coutts after it closed his account, partly due to his political views.

Two bank bosses, including NatWest Group's chief executive Dame Alison Rose, stepped down last week, with Ms Rose admitting she was the source of a BBC story stating Farage's bank account was shut on commercial grounds.

Audrey Caradonna, a spokesperson for the Sex Workers' Union, told The Independent: "For prostitutes, suddenly losing access to your bank account and your money isn't a freak occurrence but an all too common nightmare."

She said that the freezing of bank accounts leaves sex workers unable to withdraw money or make payments, which can make them increasingly vulnerable to exploitation and violence.

"A lack of funds means many are forced to take on riskier work, such as working in isolated locations or accepting cash payments," she said.

"This puts them at risk of being exploited by clients or even attacked."

Caradonna called on banks to stop freezing the bank accounts of sex workers and to ensure that they have access to the financial services they need.

The freezing of bank accounts is a serious issue that can have a devastating impact on sex workers.

It is important that banks take steps to ensure that this does not happen, and that they provide support to those who have been affected.

  • The freezing of bank accounts can have a significant impact on the mental and physical health of sexworkers.
  • It can also make it difficult for them to pay their rent, bills, and other expenses.
  • The freezing of bank accounts can also lead to sex workers being evicted from their homes or losing their jobs.
  • Campaigners are calling on banks to introduce clear and transparent policies on the freezing of bank accounts, and to provide more support to those who have been affected.

Massage for Men Who Sleep Badly

Massage is brilliant for good sleep. Why? I’ll tell you in this short article which was born thanks to a conversation with a man who has been getting massage from me for years. Bless his heart and I thank him for the loyalty and inspiration! I wrote that conversations are important for a reason. But that’s another article. This one is for all the corporate men who work hard, are perpetually in the fast lane, and may have bad sleep from all the beating of the corporate world.

Why is massage good for sleep?

I wrote about sleep, so won’t repeat myself. Massage is not just good, but an excellent long-term treatment for sleep for several reasons. The first one is that massage relaxes the muscles and we sleep only when the body is relaxed. We won’t sleep when the body is tense. It’s as simple as that. The second reason is that massage relaxes the mind too. And when the mind is happy, it sleeps well. Again, no rocket science.

The third reason is that massage is a long-term ecological natural solution. While the body habituates to sleeping pills after 6 weeks and then people pay big money for no good effect and possibly only negative side effects, massage doesn’t have negative side effects if it’s done well, i.e. if the massage practitioner doesn’t break your spine! In fact, massage has lots of other benefits about which I wrote years ago here and even here.

And the fourth reason is that if massage is combined with aromatherapy, the healing properties of essential oils amplify the good effects of massage. And the best for last – an experienced aromatherapist will massage you with oils that promote good sleep! Two birds with one stone.

And what about the cost?

Of course massage costs time, energy, and for many people mainly money, be it for sleep or whatever. In a world of only rising costs of everything many folks’ first objection will be that regular massage is expensive. Well, medicines also cost a bomb and will also cost only more. And the body habituates to medicines after 6 weeks while doctors are salespeople of pharmaceutical companies and want you to pay the costs of sleeping pills for life regardless of whether the pills work. So how does that compare? At least massage always has good effects on several things, not only sleep. In other words the body never habituates to massage. And the mind definitely never habituates to massage!

The second way of looking at the cost of massage for good sleep is that you’ll pay a price one way or another. When the sleeping pills no longer work, what then? It’ll be time to up the ante… and what’s the next level? To buy more sleeping aids? They’ll cost too. And won’t guarantee that good sleep which a well massaged body will get. Because it’s back to the first reason – when the muscles are perpetually tense and full of toxins that ever gather and never leave, sleeping aids will clearly never match the benefits of massage.

So, dear corporate man, entrepreneur, businessman, and man in every high profession which fills the body and mind with perpetual tension, stress, toxins, if you have bad sleep, I hope to have brought long sought light into your life and you’ll sleep better tonight only knowing that you’ve finally found a way to treat bad sleep that won’t harm and will benefit your health, happiness, and productivity in many ways.

On April 20, 2023, Twitter finally abolished legacy verified accounts. This meant that only users who had paid for Twitter Blue were now eligible to be verified. This change led to a number of different reactions from users.

Some users, such as Elon Musk's fanboys, were angry that they would now have to pay for verification. They argued that verification was a valuable service that should be free. Others, such as Twitter Blue subscribers, were happy to pay for the extra features that came with verification. They felt that the benefits of verification outweighed the cost. Still others, such as celebrities, were surprised to find that they had retained their verification even though they had not paid for Twitter Blue. They wondered why they had been given special treatment.

However, there was one group of users who were not discussed as much as the others. These were sex workers. Before the change, sex workers had not been able to get verified accounts. However, after the change, they were now a group of users who who could become verified. This meant that sex workers would now have to pay $8 a month to be verified.

This change was met with mixed reactions from sex workers. Some were happy that they could now be verified, even if it meant paying for it. Others were angry that they were being singled out and forced to pay for a service that was once free. Still others were worried that the cost of verification would make it more difficult for them to operate their businesses.

Ann Summers, Jacqueline Gold dies at 63

Jacqueline Gold, the founder of Ann Summers, a leading retailer of lingerie and sex toys, passed away last week at the age of 62 after battling breast cancer for seven years. Gold's passing is a great loss to the business world, especially for women across the UK, who have been empowered by her contribution to female sexual liberation.

In a statement released by Ann Summers on Friday, it was announced that Gold had passed away, leaving her husband, Dan, daughter, Scarlett, sister, Vanessa, and brother-in-law, Nick, by her side. Vanessa described her sister as an "absolute warrior" throughout her cancer journey.

Gold joined Ann Summers in the late 1970s and took over as CEO in 1987. She transformed the business into a multi-million-pound enterprise by making it more female-friendly and introducing the concept of hosting Tupperware-style parties to sell lingerie and sex toys to women in the privacy of their homes. Gold's "no men allowed" policy at these parties enabled women to discuss their desires and sexual freedom openly, which was a radical departure from the prevailing social norms of the time.

Gold was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2016 New Year Honours for her outstanding contributions to women in business, social enterprise, and entrepreneurship. In addition to being a successful businesswoman, she was also a role model for many women across the UK.

Gold's father, David Gold, co-founded Ann Summers with his brother Ralph in 1972, and he played a pivotal role in transforming the business from a small collection of standard sex shops to a nationwide high street phenomenon. David passed away just two months before Jacqueline.

Although Ann Summers has closed several branches due to the decline of the British high street, it still operates 81 stores across the UK, Ireland, and the Channel Islands. Gold's legacy will continue to inspire and empower women for generations to come. Her sister, Vanessa, has succeeded her as CEO of the company.

Hey there! So, there's a story about a police officer named PC Jonathan Simon who allegedly used CCTV cameras to stalk his ex-girlfriend after she ended their relationship because he only wanted sex. The court heard that they met when he was called to her address for a neighbor dispute, and he then manufactured reasons to return to her address later that day, where they became intimate. The woman ended the relationship because she felt he only wanted sex and didn't care about her. Later on, she faced financial difficulty and turned to Simon for advice. She claims he suggested she take up sex work to help her financial situation. The woman also said Simon stalked her using CCTV cameras, and he turned up uninvited to her address on multiple occasions, which made her feel uncomfortable and scared. The court heard that Simon has been suspended from his job, and the trial continues.

This article explores the intersection that exists between the economy and intimacy through an exploration of gift exchanges between Latin American sex workers and regular clients in London. It engages with scholarship on sex work and intimacy to explore the social dimension of gift embedded in affective commodified relationships. It argues that gifts and other exchanges are used to manage the excess of intimacy or to normalize newfound relationships. More importantly it explores the ways in which gifts create socio-economic and emotional spheres that contribute to the fulfilling of women’s migration dreams. Tracing gift exchanges in sex work offers an opportunity to examine the development of relationships that emerge from intimate sexual transactions and to look at the ways in which gift exchanges in sex work constrain or enable women’s social, economic, and emotional aspirations for the future.

Book detailing research into the sex industry by Bristol University. This book seeks to bring to the centre the voices of those directly involved in different areas of today’s sex industry.

This research is important for two reasons. First, it addresses the ethics of who speaks on behalf of the sex industry and the challenges of producing collaborative research. Second, this work is novel in revisiting participants over time to ask them to reflect back on their experience of being involved in a research project and of being represented in a government report.

The book comes out with some interesting recommendations for policy makers, police and academics.

For policy makers
• The overwhelming issue identified by participants in this book was the legal and policy framework for the sex industry, particularly the ban on paired or collective working.
• Both brothel workers and erotic dancers/strippers identified the employment practices and working conditions in managed brothels and strip venues as being the key drivers of harm, rather than commercial sexual services per se. These include:
◊ exorbitant house fees (commissions paid to venue managers or for reception, security and cleaning facilities in managed brothels);
◊ toxic cultures (use of drink or drugs or policies which promote competition – and risk-taking – between workers);
◊ the unstable and inconsistently policed regulatory environment, which deters the reporting of crimes and perpetuates employment malpractice.
• The insecure work status of many involved in the sex industry meant that they were unable to access either welfare or income support through the pandemic. Finding ways to protect the groups least able to withstand income volatility should be the priority of all governments, in ordinary and extraordinary times.

For police
• Low trust in the police means that many sex workers will not report crime which occurs either within or outside of sex working. This allows perpetrators to act with relative impunity.
• Policing should be consistent, fair and focused on individuals who perpetrate violence and exploitation, and on reducing harm for sex workers.

For academics and policy makers
• While robust evidence is important to making good policy, repeated consultations and data collection without any resulting material change to the lives of those involved in the sex industry is damaging to trust. Short funding timeframes and shifting political and policy attention mean that the impact of such work on participants is often not recognised.
• In seeking to ‘represent’ the sex industry, we must be mindful of who speaks and why. Experiences may vary depending on setting and individual context.
• A less punitive legal framework for those selling sex and more robust social support (to manage loss of income, health challenges, becoming a parent/carer, migrating, or enduring discrimination) would better empower people to determine their involvement in the sex industry.

How will the death of Twitter affect sex workers? Some in the sex industry are worried that the death of twitter will affect their livelihoods.  Other platforms are stressful, suspensions and content strikes on other platforms for sharing artwork, much of which features abstract depictions of naked women.

Twitter is one of the few platforms that allows explicit content. In recent years, it has become the center of a flourishing community of sex workers who connect with fans, advertise their content and educate other “Not Safe For Work” creators.

Many sex workers said Twitter is a necessity for them as it allows them to advertise their services, from one-on-one cam sessions to fetish art commissions. It also provides a vital centralized space to share resources.

Red-light districts are city neighborhoods with a high concentration of sex work. These unique worlds exist all over the globe — and each has their own unique history.

Such neighborhoods where sex work is popular and concentrated, are common in many urban settings. So-named for the red lights signaling sex work in storefront windows, red-light districts exist in cities from Thailand to France to Singapore — and each neighborhood is marked by its own unique history and culture.

These images are historical, as you all should know. France went down the criminalization path and the famous brothels no longer exist.

The cost-of-living crisis is affecting sex workers with a double whammy. There is an influx of new sex workers caused by poverty and destitution.  At the same time, their clients don't have so much money and the demand has as a result fallen.

It's simple, to reduce the number of women selling sex, improve the opportunities for women, and improve their earning power and wages.  Criminalising clients will not reduce the demand much and will make it more dangerous for those women working in the sex industry.  The proof.of  the relationship between earnings and women working in the sex industry, and taking dangerous clients is easy to see.

Look at the report from sky news. Cost of living crisis pushing more women into sex work - and unable to refuse dangerous clients.

With inflation at a record high and wages failing to keep up with spiralling prices and energy bills, the number of calls to the English Collective of Prostitutes has increased by a third this summer.

Spokeswoman Niki Adams, who has helped thousands of women over 30 years, said: "The cost-of-living crisis is now pushing women into sex work in various ways - whether that's on the street, in premises or online.

I don't want women forced into sex work in desperation to make end meets. The only people who should be working in sex work, are those who see it as a career and 'enjoy' the power they get out of entertaining their clients. They have the ability to select and control their meetings. Survival Seawork is abhorrent, and the state should take responsibility in ensuring livable minimum earnings. This Conservative Government has blood in its hands.

A woman added sex-work to her professional LinkedIn profile and caused quite a stir on social media.

Arielle Egozi posted a screenshot of her profile on Linkedln. Under her work experience she listed sex-work. She later explained why she mentioned it.

She had recently left a  inhouse job with a good package. She was able to do this because of sex-work.  She could walk away from her job, because sex-work showed how much power she had when she when owns the job intentionally. She charges a high rate and does not mind the rejections from the stingy bastards. She charges the rate because this is emotional labour, and the fee must be high. She sets her boundaries, and only works in a safe way. There is no time to waste on negotiating as she has nothing to prove.

She asks the question, why is this different to any other client work?  She comes back with the answer, time and time again, Nothing!

Unlike the coronavirus – which turned out to be especially virulent – the monkeypox virus is proving to be more selective and certainly nowhere near as infectious.

When monkeypox emerged in the UK just a few weeks ago, there was barely any mention of which groups were at risk. Partly because we didn’t know – but even when it did become clearer that it was men who have sex with men who were particularly susceptible to contracting the virus, there was a fear that saying this publicly could foster stigma for a group all too familiar with bigotry.

But now the UK Heath Security Agency has at last unveiled its strategy to try and mitigate the spread of the monkeypox virus – and its main intervention will be to offer a vaccine to gay and bisexual men.

While I agree with using public health intelligence to target those most at risk of contracting this virus, they seem to have neglected one group that also face an elevated risk: female sex workers. Monkeypox won’t give a jot whether sexual intimacy happens between same sex or mixed sex couples. Those who have more sex, with multiple partners, are still at risk.

Not for the first time have women been overlooked when a virus emerges, and public health advice and intervention begin to be formulated. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, when HIV emerged and began spreading among the male gay community, women were ignored – particularly female sex workers.

A review of the Emma Thompson move, Good Luck to you, Leo Grande.  In this movie Emma hires a male escort.

You gotta ponder, is this escort thing a good route for you? Hiring a companion to be there for you for you to help figure out everything you ever wanted to know about yourself sexually, it sounds somewhat liberating and educational. But then again, most everyone online seems to know exactly what and when they want it, so you’re all confident about all that stuff, right?

So Instincters, would you hire or have you hired a companion?

Is Tinder killing the revenue for escorts?  Are clients moving away from booking an escort, and instead using hookup sites for 'free' sex. Sex has never been more readily available so one would think that would lead to a slowdown in terms of the need to pay for such services, right?

Well hell know. An attractive guy will have a 100% chance of sex with an escort.  That same guy using a hookup site has a 0.06% chance of getting sex.  Women have a greater sucess of 10%

Five or six police officers came to my flat last April,” Iris* said. “I was really shocked so I didn’t open the door because I didn’t know what was going on. They broke my door.  Originally from South Korea, she is enrolled in a nursing course.

The police kept her in a cold cell, confiscated her purse and threw her out onto the streets with no money to get home.  She is accused of brothel keeping and trafficking charges. She has helped other sex workers, none of them are trafficking victims.

She was forced to sell her home, because she can't afford the mortgage,

Niki Adams, a spokesperson for the English Collective of Prostitutes, told The Independent Iris is one of many women their network supports who has been raided, arrested and prosecuted simply for supporting other sex workers against potentially dangerous customers.

“Most of these raids are justified by police saying they are cracking down on ‘modern slavery’ but it is migrant sex workers who are harmed,” Ms Adams added.

Sex work is not illegal in the UK. There are also a number of laws to protect workers from those who seek to exploit or harm them. Yet by any measure, the law has still failed to do that, as women, men and transgender people continue to experience violence and exploitation.

Despite the best efforts of successive governments, sex work continues to thrive. The UK Crown Prosecution Service claims that laws are designed to reduce demand for sexual services, but there is no evidence this has had any impact.

Decrim Now, a UK coalition of workers and supporters, opposes regulation entirely and wants to see the entire industry decriminalised, but some groups involved in the industry don’t agree.

When a woman is killed, comments fly about saying that she was only walking home,  or she was only walking to the gym.  This is basically saying that this respectable woman was killed on her way home.  These comments do not encompass everyone who faces male violence. What about the women who society considers to be bad, the sex worker walking to meet a client.  Would the twitter feeds say, that she was only walking to meet her client in a hotel. Would there be some commentry that she was working a dangerous job, and that predictably she was killed.

All women count.

17th December 2021 marks the 18th International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (or IDEVASW), a day when sex workers and allies around the world gather to remember those we have lost due to stigma, marginalisation and harm.

Last year, and in previous years, National Ugly Mugs (NUM) invited you to join us and say their names. This year, we ask you to do more. We ask all of you to take time to remember our colleagues and friends alongside us, and then resolve to continue fighting for equal rights for all members of society.

When we find work, many of us find the work not empowering. Most people would not say cleaning toilets, cleaning offices is empowering. Working in a call centre in the main is not empowering. Working in Amazon packing parcels is not empowering. So why does working as a sex worker have to be empowering? For many escorts working as a sex worker is not empowering, but a way to earn good money at the most flexible and fastest way to allow other activities. Some sex workers do find the work empowering. Research in California found call girls in the main found selling sex empowering. But the main complaint about Julies article is, why does sex work have to be empowering for people to work as escorts, when so many other menial poorly paid jobs are not empowering. What is so special about sex work that it must be empowering for people to partcipate in the work?

She of course then comes out with other old disproven tropes that the entry into sex worker is under the age of 18 and from people who were abused or had mental health issues. This has been time and time proven not to be the case. She fails to differentiate between the licensed German system, and the decriminalised system in new Zealand and Western Australia. In Germany, the licensing encourages large brothels, while in New Zealand the decriminalised approach along with the planning laws encourages small discrete workplaces operated by friends for companionship and safety. Many escorts with mental health issues find that selling sex is the most convenient way of earning money. Their mental health issues don’t allow them to get a ‘normal job’.

She wants to get rid of pimps, but we all know that working together always results in at least one of the sex workers to be accused of pimping, normally the owner of the lease. Often though, as in the Republic of Ireland, all the Irish Escorts working together in the flat will be charged and convicted of pimping each other. This is also a way thet ‘bad’ clients who are criminalised can have a hold over these prostitutes.

Bindel refuses to acknowledge that criminalising the client fails and causes more harm to the escort. Research from Cambridge University into the implementation of the Nordic Model in Sweden shows how this has so harmed sex workers. More so than the few clients caught.

Book excerpt: “Madam”, the story of the famous brothel owner Polly Adler

Whore is a word that offends the ear and tastes bitter on the tongue. The English language abounds with more polite, poetic and precise terms to describe a woman exchanging sex for money: prostitute, sex worker, evening lady, working girl, fallen woman, call girl. Many more are apologetically rude: whore, rag, k ** t, and piece of skin were all commonly heard in New York dives after the Great War.

Women who made a business of sex in those days often turned their noses up over the expression prostitute, prefers to call himself hustlers, party girls, or regulars. But everyone in the sex industry used the word whore. “In those days, prostitutes were not called chippies or pies or call girls or other fancy names,” columnist Danton Walker recalled. “They were known, quite rightly, by the biblical name: whores, and their establishments were called brothels.” It was, after all, one of the world’s oldest words, used to describe the world’s oldest profession.

The former Love Island star, 27, has worked in the industry as a stripper and revealed that was 'shamed' for her work when she was first in the public eye.

Megan, who now has an OnlyFans account, continued in the caption: 'When I spoke openly on Love Island 3 years ago about being a stripper, I was shamed for it.

'I was shamed by friends and those in my local area too. Contrary to stereotypes of sex workers being addicts, ‘sl*ts’ and people with no hope, I had a completely different experience.

'These women and myself were choosing to make money this way. We believed and still do believe that we should be the ones making decisions on what we do with OUR bodies. Freedom of choice is a crucial element of feminism that people often overlook.

I am the victim of revolting theft from someone I trusted and positively supported.

I’ve been violently threatened NOT to say anything to anyone aboutthe abuse etc etc etc which I probably would have done if it were not now obvious that I have been robbed by this person. Because of the theft I will NOT be afraid any longer and certainly NOT silenced!!!

Hello my name is Annabel, I am presently recovering from a 4.5 hour surgery which took place on the 15th October 2021. I have not been able to work obviously since then and won’t be able to until end of November. I have realised that I have been robbed of the following by my ex flat mate of 3 months , who cherry picked my most needed belongings and planned this theft prior to leaving my property the day before my surgery.  This person refused and lied and would not leave any earlier.

Yes decriminise prostition. I and most sex workers would agree.  BUT Nimco Ali, a close friend of Carrie Johnson, says legislation should target men who use sex workers rather than the women themselves.  This is not decriminilisation. This is the failed Nordic model which does not make sex workers saver. It has been shown time and time again that sex workers are harmed more by this type of legislation. Why oh why does a certain type of feminist ignore the evidence.

The oipinions Catharine A. MacKinnon need to be challanged. She is a long time avide campaigner against sex workers.  In her argument, she brings in to sex workers (survivors of prostitution) to back up her claims that sexwork is serial rape, and that the term sex work is gas lighting.  We can sympathise with the few women (and men) who have been coerced and forced into prostitution. Their stories are heart breaking.

Catharine and these survivors will always ignore the opinions  of the majority of sex workers. The majority of sex workers opinions will always be ignored in favour of the right kind of story presented by the few 'survivors of prostitution'.

Unfortunatley the likes of Catherine have too loud a voice in this debate, which drowns out the voices of those who work as sex workers.

London sex workers, you are eligible for free flu jabs. If you’re comfortable disclosing your job to a pharmacist, you’ll be able to get one from a pharmacy in the next couple of weeks. If not, hang tight - looking an anonymous referrals and pop up clinics 💉
